🖍️ ✂️ ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

Purpose Exploration

Objective: Help children understand that everyone has unique strengths and a special purpose. Through fun and reflective activities, they will explore their own talents and interests, discovering ways they can contribute to the world.

Materials:

  • A large sheet of paper or poster board

  • Markers, crayons, or colored pencils

  • Magazines or printed images (optional for a collage)

  • Scissors and glue (for the collage)

  • A mirror (optional for self-reflection part)

Steps:

  1. Introduction (5 minutes):

    • Affirmation Talk: Start by introducing the affirmation "I came into this world with a purpose." Ask your child what they think “purpose” means. Share that purpose can mean using their unique talents, interests, and qualities to do something special in the world.

    • Explain that today, you will go on a journey together to discover some of the things that make them special and how these can be part of their purpose.

  2. Create a "Purpose Poster" (5 minutes):

    • Take a large sheet of paper or poster board, and label it "My Purpose" at the top.

    • This will be a place for your child to visually explore their strengths, talents, and things they care about.

  3. Self-Discovery Questions (10-15 minutes):

    • Ask your child some questions to help them reflect on their unique qualities and interests. As they answer, help them write or draw their responses on the poster. You can ask:

      • What are some things you’re really good at?

        • For example: drawing, building things, making people laugh, solving puzzles, etc.

      • What do you love to do?

        • For example: playing with animals, helping people, singing, reading, etc.

      • What makes you feel happy or excited?

        • For example: spending time with friends, creating art, or exploring outside.

      • What’s something you’ve done that made someone else happy?

        • For example: helping a sibling, sharing toys, or making a gift for someone.

  4. Create a "Purpose Collage" (10-15 minutes):

    • If you have old magazines or printed images, let your child cut out pictures that represent their talents, interests, and things they care about. They can glue these images onto the poster to visually represent their purpose.

    • If no magazines are available, they can draw pictures or symbols that represent these qualities (e.g., a heart for kindness, a book for love of learning, etc.).

  5. Reflection and Future Impact (10 minutes):

    • Once their Purpose Poster is complete, talk about how the things they’re good at and enjoy can make a positive impact in the world. For example:

      • If they love animals, they might help take care of pets or wildlife one day.

      • If they are great at making people smile, they could brighten someone's day.

      • If they love solving problems, they could invent new things to help people.

    • Discuss how everyone has a purpose and that discovering it is part of growing up. Reassure them that purpose doesn’t mean they need to know everything right now, but they are already making a difference by being themselves!

  6. Mirror Reflection (Optional - 5 minutes):

    • Stand in front of a mirror with your child. Ask them to look at themselves and say: "I came into this world with a purpose."

    • Reflect together on how they are already living with purpose through the small acts they do every day—like being kind, learning new things, or helping others.

  7. Affirmation Wrap-Up (5 minutes):

    • End the activity by repeating the affirmation together: "I came into this world with a purpose."

    • Encourage them to keep their Purpose Poster somewhere visible to remind them of all the special qualities they have and how they can make the world a better place by being who they are.

Why This Works:

  • Self-Discovery: The activity helps children reflect on their unique talents and interests, guiding them toward understanding their purpose in a way that feels personal and meaningful.

  • Building Confidence: By visually exploring their strengths and seeing them as valuable contributions, children will feel more confident about their ability to make a difference.

  • Purposeful Reflection: The process of creating the poster and discussing how they already have purpose helps them internalize the affirmation in a tangible and empowering way.

This activity encourages children to live out the affirmation "I came into this world with a purpose" by recognizing and celebrating their unique gifts, showing them that even small actions can contribute to a bigger purpose in the world
