đď¸ âď¸ ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK
Love Missions
Objective: Teach children how to approach the world with love by completing missions that focus on showing love to others, animals, and even themselves.
Materials:
A list of "Love Missions" (you can write them on paper or cards)
Markers, paper, or craft supplies for certain missions
Optional: A small âLove Journalâ or a notebook to track their completed missions
Steps:
Introduction (5 minutes):
Affirmation Talk: Start by explaining the affirmation "I approach the world with love." Ask your child what they think it means to show love to others and the world around them.
Talk about how love can be shown through kindness, helping others, caring for animals, and even by loving yourself through self-care and positive thoughts.
Tell them they are about to become "Love Ambassadors" by completing a series of Love Missions that spread kindness and love to everyone around them.
Create the Love Mission List (5 minutes):
With your child, come up with a list of simple acts of kindness or caring tasks. You can guide them to think of missions like:
Love Mission 1: Make a handmade card for someone special.
Love Mission 2: Give a compliment to a family member or friend.
Love Mission 3: Help set the table or clean up after a meal with love and care.
Love Mission 4: Water a plant and talk about how we show love to nature.
Love Mission 5: Draw a picture of what it looks like to approach the world with love (e.g., hugging the earth, helping others).
Love Mission 6: Share your favorite toy with a sibling or friend for a whole day.
Start the Love Missions (30 minutes):
Mission 1: Making a Card of Love (10 minutes)
Gather craft supplies like markers, paper, and stickers. Let your child make a special card for someone (a grandparent, friend, teacher, etc.).
Encourage them to think about what makes that person special and write or draw kind words that show their love.
Mission 2: Giving Compliments (5 minutes)
Ask your child to pick someone at home (or they can call a relative) and give them a heartfelt compliment.
Discuss how words of love can make someoneâs day brighter.
Mission 3: Nature Love (5 minutes)
Pick a plant or a tree outside, and let your child water it or clean its leaves.
Explain that by caring for nature, we show love to the world around us.
Mission 4: Self-Love Check-In (5 minutes)
Ask your child what they love about themselves. Help them write or draw things they are proud of (e.g., being helpful, creative, or a good friend).
Reinforce that loving themselves is just as important as loving others!
Reflection Time (5-10 minutes):
After completing the Love Missions, sit together and talk about how they felt during each mission.
Ask questions like: âHow did the person react to your card or compliment? How did it feel to care for a plant? What was it like to think about the things you love about yourself?â
Discuss how these small actions are powerful ways to show love to the world.
Affirmation Wrap-Up (5 minutes):
End the activity by repeating the affirmation together: "I approach the world with love."
Encourage your child to think of love missions they can do every day, whether itâs a kind word, a helpful action, or simply giving themselves a little love by remembering how special they are.
Why This Works:
Practical Acts of Love: By completing the "Love Missions," children learn that love can be expressed in various waysâthrough words, actions, and care for themselves and others.
Building Compassion: The activity encourages empathy and mindfulness of how their actions affect others, reinforcing the habit of approaching the world with kindness and love.
Positive Reflection: The self-love component helps build self-esteem, showing children that love starts from within and radiates outward.
This activity creates a beautiful environment for children to live the affirmation "I approach the world with love," while nurturing kindness, empathy, and self-compassion in a playful and meaningful way.
