Affirmations are powerful, but we know kids need a little something extra to really feel those words. So we teamed up with mental health experts to create simple, quick activities that help kids truly live the affirmations theyâre repeating, making them feel real and inspiring lasting confidence.
Hereâs whatâs in todayâs email:

đď¸ âď¸ ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK
Challenge Champions
Objective: Help children live the affirmation "I can handle anything" by creating challenges that encourage problem-solving, adaptability, and perseverance.
Materials:
A timer (could be a phone or kitchen timer)
A variety of everyday household objects (e.g., pillows, cups, paper, socks, string, etc.)
A notepad or chart for keeping track of challenges
Steps:
Introduction (5 minutes):
Affirmation Talk: Start by talking about the affirmation. Ask your child what they think it means to âhandle anythingâ and give examples of situations where they've already shown resilience.
Explain that the game today is all about taking on different challenges and handling them like a champion!
Setting the Scene (5 minutes):
Build excitement by saying they are now âChallenge Championsâ who will take on fun challenges around the house.
Emphasize that it's not about winning or losing, but about trying their best and coming up with creative ways to solve problems, no matter how tricky they may seem.
Challenge Time (30-40 minutes):
Challenge 1: Build a Tower (5 minutes)
Give your child random household objects (pillows, cups, paper, etc.) and ask them to build the tallest tower they can in 3 minutes.
When the timer is up, talk about what went well and what was tricky.
Encourage them to think of how they "handled" the challenge.
Challenge 2: The Floor is Lava! (5-7 minutes)
Lay out pillows, cushions, or pieces of paper around the room, and challenge them to cross the room without touching the floor.
If they fall, they can restart but remind them, âYou can handle this!â
Challenge 3: Super Sock Toss (5 minutes)
Have a target (like a bucket or basket) and some rolled-up socks. Challenge them to throw as many socks into the target as they can in 1 minute.
If they miss, encourage them to keep trying, saying, "I can handle it!"
Challenge 4: Creative Problem-Solving Task (10 minutes)
Present a more open-ended challenge, like âUsing only paper and string, make something that can hold a cup of water for 1 minute.â
This one requires experimentation and testing â let them try, fail, and improve their solution, reinforcing the idea that they can handle anything with persistence.
Reflection Time (5-10 minutes):
After all the challenges, sit down together and talk about how they faced each task.
Ask questions like: âWhat was hard? How did you feel when it didnât work right away? How did you figure out a solution?â
Reinforce the message: âNo matter what, you handled it! Thatâs what makes you a Challenge Champion.â
Affirmation Wrap-Up (5 minutes):
Repeat the affirmation together: âI can handle anything.â
Share how you (the parent) also handle challenges and how important it is to keep trying, no matter the obstacle.
Why This Works:
Resilience Building: Each challenge encourages the child to think on their feet and adjust their approach, promoting the idea that they can manage difficult situations.
Interactive and Fun: The playful format ensures engagement while subtly instilling the lesson of perseverance.
Positive Reinforcement: Regularly hearing and saying âI can handle anythingâ reinforces the belief that challenges are manageable.
